Thomas Schermerhorn, MD

Dr. Thomas Schermerhorn is a practicing board certified Obstetrician/ Gynecologist who specializes in women’s health care in Burlington, NC. He received his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland and completed his residency at the Naval Medical Center San Diego and as of 2010 he retired from the Navy. Although most of his day currently revolves around surgeries, deliveries and well-women exams, he also specializes in weight loss and has been associated with the Center for Medical Weight Loss since 2009. His program emphasizes a balanced approach to weight loss including a mix of caloric restriction, behavior modification and exercise. Being located inside Gold’s Gym makes the latter most convenient for his patients. His goal for his patients is for long term weight reduction and management, not “yo-yo” diets. Only through sustainable weight loss do patients benefit from the prevention of medical illnesses like heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, cancer, and orthopedic ailments.
Dr Schermerhorn sees both men and women at his center.
