*In a CMWL multicenter randomized trial involving 550 patients who followed a CMWL Low-Calorie Diet (LCD) or Modified LCD Program, both with and without appetite suppressants, the average weight loss was 2 pounds per week over a 12-week period. The research was wholly funded by an independent third party with the exception of travel expenses. According to a study published in The American Journal of Medicine, participants completing a 12-week medical weight loss program lost 11.1% of their body weight, on average. Results may vary.




For me, losing weight was all about improving my health. My primary care physician explained that losing just a little bit of weight could help lower my rising blood sugar and cholesterol levels. This was easier said than done. I had dieted in the past and lost weight, only to put it all on again. In fact, my last diet ended up adding six extra pounds! I knew that I could only succeed long term if I had support. When I found out about The Center for Medical Weight Loss, it seemed like the perfect plan for me. I knew my health would not be jeopardized if a trained weight loss physician were monitoring my progress every step of the way.

The CMWL plan worked for me because it gave me all the tools and support I needed to lose weight. The behavioral counseling teaches you how to manage certain eating situations. I remember going out of town for four days, after I just started the program, and worrying about how to stay on track when I would be exposed to lots of tempting foods. Dr. Schermerhorn gave me suggestions for dealing with it and they really worked!  I came back and had not lost any weight, but also had not gained any weight, which was a win-win for me. I also no longer keep anything in my house that I do not want to eat. Even when I have company, I buy things my guests enjoy eating, and when they leave I send the leftovers home with them.

Another great aspect of the program is the CMWL scale. I liked the accountability of being weighed every two weeks because I needed that for my own success. But the CMWL scale is no ordinary scale! It measures your BMI, muscle mass, and water and fat percentages, which gave me a much greater understanding of how my body was losing weight. I lost weight almost every two weeks, 3-4 pounds, with the exception of a few times when I had gained a few pounds.  The few times I did gain weight, I could pinpoint why, and I talked with Dr. S. about ways to avoid doing that again.  Dr. Schermerhorn has been very supportive, complimentary, and great at guiding me through my weight loss. 

I now have maintained my weight loss for a year, something I have never been able to do with any other weight loss program.  I still go to my local center once a month to measure my BMI (it went from 36 to 24), fat percentage (44.8% to 29%) and muscle mass (26% to 30%).  Seeing the numbers allows me to check that I am not losing muscle, gaining weight, or increasing fat as I progress through maintenance. 

The best part about losing weight is how healthy I look and feel. My cholesterol and blood sugar levels are back within a healthy range and I have energy to burn. My primary care physician said he had never seen a patient lose as much weight without weight-loss surgery! Losing 140-pounds left me feeling more confident than ever. I moved from a Plus Size to a size 12 and get compliments all the time about my new look. People I have not seen for decades have a hard time recognizing me! I cannot thank CMWL enough for helping me to achieve my goals on this weight loss journey.  Yes, it was all up to me, but without the help, guidance, and encouragement of Dr. S., I know I would not have been as successful.

Top Tip to Stay Motivated:Don't beat yourself up if you falter. Everyone does. Just finish out the day and start over tomorrow. I knew I had a goal in mind, which I have surpassed,.But my main goal was just to get through each day. Short-term goals allow you to feel a sense of achievement everyday without feeling overwhelmed.
